OpenText
Project Context
OpenText engaged Nine Feet Tall to support with the integration of Microfocus IT PMO and to enhance EA and BE functions. The objective was to seamlessly integrate processes, governance, and documentation across the organisation. The PMO focused on adopting ‘just enough governance’ for strategic alignment and risk mitigation, while Enterprise Architecture & Business Engagement Design aimed to align demand pipelines and development roadmaps with business requirements.
Project Delivery
Nine Feet Tall executed a comprehensive set of services to address the challenges and goals outlined in the PMO and Enterprise Architecture & Business Engagement functions:
PMO Integration:
The overarching goal of the PMO integration project was to ensure processes and governance across their CIO portfolio were aligned successfully. Focussing on adopting a ‘just enough governance’ approach, Nine Feet Tall were able to facilitate choice, consistency, and visibility without hindering progress. PMO integration aims to offer a single version of the truth for accurate status reporting, reflecting progress, risks, mitigation strategies, and areas requiring assistance. In order to achieve this Nine Feet Tall conducted a PMO Maturity Assessment, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. Additionally, Nine Feet Tall collaborated with OpenText to develop a PMO Integration Roadmap helping to provide guidance and clearly document how they can mature their approach over time. Furthermore, by implementing PMO Transition Planning and Change Management strategies, Nine Feet Tall were able to contribute to de-risking project delivery by proactively identifying and mitigating risks before they materialise.
Enterprise Architecture & Business Engagement:
OpenText, led by its CIO and team, recognised the need for a new approach to building their demand pipelines. The aim was to align these processes with business requirements and support the broader CIO in delivering transformative change. A recently launched Business Engagement function required shaping, definition and embedding to support the business and IT Delivery Teams. In order to achieve this, Nine Feet Tall initially conducted interviews and workshops with key stakeholders across the business to gather outline requirements. Using the data collected, an As-is and To-be demand management process was mapped out, highlighting the potential impact and core activities needed to achieve this. Central to this was the establishment of a demand management to delivery transition process. Ultimately, this allowed a more streamlined and concise approach. As a result of these activities OpenText now had clear terms of reference and roles within their business engagement processes.
Project Outcomes
Nine Feet Tall successfully integrated PMO processes and established a ‘just enough governance’ approach, encouraging higher levels of team engagement and ultimately less ‘red tape’. With newly integrated Business Engagement and Enterprise Architecture roles within OpenText, they are now equipped with a more collaborative decision-making process. Aligning to their strategic vision OpenText now have a roadmap for continuous improvement and increased outputs.
The relationship between employee satisfaction and customer satisfaction is symbiotic. Businesses that invest in the well-being and happiness of their employees always deliver an enhanced customer experiences, which I experienced when working with Nine Feet Tall’s motivated and dedicated team.
